Wellness Concepts

What is “Bioregulatory Medicine” and why is it Wellness Concepts’ preferred approach?
Let me begin by stressing that the urgent need for Bioregulatory Medicine, which first seeks to “Do No Harm”, is greater than ever in our current sick-care era. Why do we have more disease than ever, despite more and more drugs and their increasing use? How do we reconcile ‘more advanced’, yet financially crushing hospital treatments and constantly advancing sick-care costs? This drug and dollar approach to meeting symptoms and disease has been a national disappointment.
Bioregulatory Medicine is the result of five decades of primarily German research which has confirmed that tiny concentrations of proven, specifically-combined natural substances can influence critical processes and systems of the body. Regulatory systems such as the immune and excretory systems are most favorably affected by this approach.
In this approach, small concentrations of ultra-safe, very well-studied materials act as a “reset” to the immune system – responsible for protection against infection, arising cancerous cells and the body’s overburdened excretory system from today’s toxic environment (air, water, food, drugs, etc.), which can suppress and misdirect the basic recovery and healing systems in the body. These natural composites essentially help return our bodies’ systems to their natural and intended levels.
Herbs and other natural substances have been recognized for millennia by humankind as having medical value. It only stands to reason, that natural substances, purposely evolved for immediate use by the body, would be of immense value to each and every one of us. Indeed, the literal experience of hundreds of thousands of physicians world-wide using Bioregulatory Medicine in one form or another, should be harnessed for the betterment of unwell individuals and for the preventive care of those who regard themselves as “well”.
It won’t be until we begin to address the underlying causes of sickness and disease and learn to acknowledge and promote preventive healthcare as a necessity, that America’s healthcare system will truly turn a corner for the better.
Our clinic strives to use the principles of Bioregulatory Medicine to fashion personalized medical care for each individual that we are privileged to serve.

The Chicago Blackhawks are the first vitamin D team in modern professional sports history.

The Chicago Blackhawk team physicians began diagnosing and treating vitamin D deficiency in all Blackhawk players about 18 months ago. Apparently, most players are on 5,000 IU per day. After many losing seasons, last year the Blackhawks came out of nowhere to get to the Western conference finals. This year they are playing even better. Improved athletic performance is only one of the benefits for the Blackhawk players. The other is a reduction in the number and severity of colds and flu and a reduction in the number and severity of repetitive use injuries. Six months ago, Runner’s World published a story on vitamin D and physical performance. A year ago, the flagship journal of the American College of Sports Medicine was the first journal to publish the theory that vitamin D would improve athletic performance.

Pfizer discloses $35Million in payoffs to physicians

The New York Times (4/1, B2, Wilson) reports, "Pfizer, the world's largest drugmaker, said Wednesday that it paid about $20 million to 4,500 doctors and other medical professionals for consulting and speaking on its behalf in the last six months of 2009." The company "also paid $15.3 million to 250 academic medical centers and other research groups for clinical trials in the same period."
The disclosure is part of an agreement to settle a government probe into whether the company marketed certain drugs off-label, the Wall Street Journal (4/1, Rockoff, Loftus) reports. Pfizer also agreed to pay $2.3 billion and to plead guilty to a criminal charge under the settlement.
The AP (4/1, Johnson) reports, "The information, posted on its Website, was released...a week after passage of the national healthcare overhaul," which "includes provisions requiring detailed disclosures of even small payments and gifts to physicians by makers of drugs and medical devices, but not until 2013." The company's database includes information on whether physicians have "received payments for consulting services, giving speeches or participating in drug testing, as well as free meals or travel reimbursement." Reuters (4/1) and the Financial Times (4/1, Kirchgaessner) also cover the story.
